Description:In numerous sailings over the course of World War II, the SS Serpa Pinto (or Serpa Pinta) bore more refugees across the Atlantic than any other Portuguese ship. It typically carried up to 800 passengers per sailing, departing from Lisbon. JDC purchased tickets and provided guarantees, which enabled thousands to reach safety. The January 1942 sailing included passengers bound for Jamaica, Cuba, and New York.
