Description: | In numerous sailings over the course of World War II, the SS Serpa Pinto (or Serpa Pinta) bore more refugees across the Atlantic than any other Portuguese ship. It typically carried up to 800 passengers, departing from Lisbon. JDC’s financial assistance enabled thousands to reach safety. The September 1942 sailing included passengers bound for the port of Veracruz in Mexico and Baltimore. |
